Defence Force discipline.
Gavin's years in the Defence Force shaped a methodology built on careful planning, calm execution, and meticulous documentation. The same standard now anchors every investigation we take on.
Led by former Defence Force operative Gavin Willis, Stirling Investigations is Australia's discreet, professional, results-driven private investigation firm. Fifteen years of surveillance, family-law and corporate intelligence work, delivered with the discipline of a military background and the discretion of a profession that cannot afford mistakes.
Gavin Willis · Principal Investigator · Founder
Gavin Willis spent the formative years of his career in the Australian Defence Force. The discipline, planning, and operational discretion he learned in uniform shaped the way he runs investigations today: prepare thoroughly, observe carefully, document everything, and never improvise when the stakes are real.
He founded Stirling Investigations to bring that same standard to private clients. Over fifteen-plus years he has resolved more than 2,000 matters across surveillance, family law, workers compensation, corporate intelligence and technical counter-surveillance (TSCM). Those clients still refer him to others, years after their original case closed.
Today, Gavin leads a team of licensed investigators operating across New South Wales. Each, a specialist in their field (surveillance, TSCM, process serving, locate work) and hand-picked by Gavin for their high standards. The result is a firm with the depth to handle almost any brief, and the capacity to offer a deeply personalised service. Every new case is briefed by Gavin himself before any field work begins.
You can't fake precision in this work. You can't fake discretion either. My time in the Defence Force taught me both. They're skills that are required on every PI job.

Private investigation is a small industry. Reputation does the heavy lifting. Here's what consistently brings clients to us, and back to us.
Gavin's years in the Defence Force shaped a methodology built on careful planning, calm execution, and meticulous documentation. The same standard now anchors every investigation we take on.
From professional surveillance kits to non-linear junction detectors for sweeps, our toolkit is current. Skip-tracing databases, forensic-grade evidence handling, and secure reporting is standard.
Most of our work never becomes public. Some of it can never become public. Clients share personal details they wouldn't tell their closest friends or family. Holding that trust is the job.
When evidence needs to hold up in Family Court, a workers compensation tribunal, or commercial dispute, our documentation is built for it. Chain of custody, sworn affidavit-ready reporting.
Every Stirling investigator operates under current state licensing and full professional insurance, with AIPI membership and 24/7 availability for urgent matters.

If you are ever uncertain about any investigator's credibility, ask for their licence number and insurance. If they get defensive, that's a red flag. Walk away. We provide ours on the first call.
When Australian newsrooms need a private investigator's perspective on a public-interest story, Gavin is a regular voice.
A candid conversation about what the job is actually like: the rhythms of long surveillance shifts, what people get wrong about the profession from film and television, and the calls that keep coming in at 2am.
